Skyline Supermarket

back to projects

Overview

A neighbourhood supermarket on a tight corner plot, with the loading and service yard pushed behind the building so the shopfront could hold the whole street frontage. The cold room and its plant are formed into the same structure rather than added to it, which is what lets the yard and the chillers share one slab.

The Challenges

A corner plot with two street frontages and no room for a service yard at the front, a floor area that had to be almost entirely sales, and a chill requirement on the slab that was already the most heavily loaded part of the building.

The Engineering Solution

The yard moved behind the sales floor and screened from the street, one structural slab cast to the load the chillers need, and the refrigeration plant given a room with its own access separate from deliveries.
